Mild Steel Metal Cutting Yorkshire

We would recommend that most mild steels are cut using our Laser cutting service for thicknesses up to 25mm. Our laser can reach phenomenal speeds on mild steel and the dry environment does not start the corrosion process like it does on the WaterJet.

On thicknesses above 25mm the WaterJet is used. The lack of heat in the Waterjet allows us to nest parts just 6mm apart up to thicknesses of 200mm, this reduces material waste and keeps the cost down.

Our Laser allows us to cut mild steels using "eco-cut". This provides a much faster and efficient pierce than conventional lasers and allows us to cut at much faster speeds. Also on thicker mild steels we use "WACS" technology. This sprays a fine mist of water and rust inhibitor onto the sheet to keep it cooler during the cutting cycle.

Mild steel is much cheaper as a material and is cheaper to cut but it it is recommended that any products made from mild steel are powder coated or plated to prevent rust. We can arrange parts to be powder coated or plated on request, when sending orders or enquries please make it clear if we are required to do this otherwise it will be assumed that this will be organised by yourself.

Mild steel is available in a variety of grades. The most common grade we stock is S275 / 43a, Colled rolled (CR) up to 3mm and Hot rolled (HR) for 4mm and above. We also have limited stocks of S355 and Durbar plate.
