West Country food delivery services move to Olivo containers

Two food delivery specialists in Devon and Cornwall have started this year to use Olivo insulated containers for delivery of frozen or chilled products. Members of the Country Range group of 14 independent wholesale food suppliers who operate out of over 20 depots throughout the UK and Channel Islands, both companies use the Olivo eutectic plates for refrigeration.

Ilfracombe Foodservice moved at the beginning of this year into much larger premises at Mullacott Cross, just south of Ilfracombe and deliver across Devon, North Cornwall and Somerset. These new premises are 70,000 sq ft and a new cold store with 600 pallet spaces has been built inside the main building. The company offers 3500 lines of food and catering products and over 600 of frozen food. With 47 employees and 14 trucks (ranging from 7.5t to 15t), Ilfracombe Foodservice was established in 1972. Mike Watson who was one of the two founders now fully owns the company, following his partner's retirement several years ago. Paul Moore is the Operations Manager and he has been with the company for 21 years. Looking to increase their flexibility with frozen and chilled food, Paul researched the market and decided to purchase Olivo insulated containers. He said: “They do exactly the job we wanted them to do and undoubtedly are the best bit of kit on the market to supplement our multi-temperature fleet”.”.

Chaffins Foodservice in Redruth specialises in food for the catering trade in Cornwall – hotels, pubs, restaurants, cafes, nursing homes, schools and golf clubs, etc. Originally established in 1958 by William Chaffin as a cash and carry operation, it then became a limited company in 1962 before being taken over by Mr J.M. Brown i9n 1970. The company is now jointly owned by the Brown family, who have a long history in the food business going to back to 1796 as tea and coffee merchants in Rugby. Today there are 35 employees and a fleet of 9 modern refrigerated Mercedes-Benz and Isuzu delivery vehicles. Chaffins Foodservice current customer base is in excess of 800 and they provide a daily or twice weekly service in Cornwall and Devon including the Isles of Scilly. Both Andrew Brown, Buyer, and Mark Harvey, Business Support Manager, confirmed that the Olivo containers gave Chaffins considerably more flexibility in handling multi-temperature deliveries

Olivo portable insulated containers are manufactured near Lyons in France and are the market leaders in equipment for the distribution of temperature sensitive food and pharmaceutical products without the need for costly and expensive vehicle refrigeration. Apart from local delivery services such as Ilfracombe and Chaffins, many major distribution and retail organisations across the world use Olivo containers for their efficiency and security.
