Ireland's premier pharmaceutical distributor chooses Olivo

United Drug started operations in County Mayo in 1948 and has grown steadily to become the number one pharmaceutical products distributor and wholesaler in Ireland. They also have operations in Northern Ireland, England, the Netherlands Belgium and the USA. In 2009, the group had sales of €1,718 million.

Christy Grogan is Distribution Manager for the Republic of Ireland for The United Drug Distributors division (UDD). This division, based at Magna Park near Dublin, imports, warehouses and distributes pharmaceutical and over-the-counter medicines to pharmaceutical wholesalers and hospitals, on behalf of manufacturers, in the Republic of Ireland. UDD specialises in the management of non-core activities for healthcare manufacturers with a core focus on storage, distribution, order processing and related administration and information systems. Customers include several global pharmaceutical companies

Christy investigated the situation with regard to increasing efficiency and lowering costs for their delivery operations of the temperature sensitive products. This brought him to Olivo and now United have a fleet of BAC 55 chest portable insulated containers together with a few Roll 900 larger containers. It is vital for United – as with any pharmaceutical products distributor – that the integrity of the product is maintained at all times. The Olivo containers most certainly do this, according to Christy, and he is very pleased with the way that they have fitted into his operations. He said: “Our customers are very pleased with our use of these containers as the temperature is always correctly maintained and that, of course, is very important to all of us”.

Olivo have been developing and producing portable insulated containers at their factory near St Etienne in France for over fifty years. The annual capacity is 50,000 containers. With sales offices in the UK, Spain and Singapore and a chain of distributors around the World, the containers are used by many well known names for the distribution of temperature sensitive products – Boots, Aldi, Netto, Compass, Londis, Tesco, Casino, Carrefour, Colruyt, Palmer and Harvey, Ocado, Asda etc.
